Metaphysical meaning of Aram-maacah (mbd)
Aram-maacah (A. V., Syria-maachah), a'-ram-ma'-a-cah (Heb.)--high pressure; high compression, exalted oppression; high exhaustion; high depression.
A country to the north of Israel (I Chron. 19:6). This name is applied to the part of Syria that is hemmed in by mountains.
Meta. A much depressed state of consciousness that is the outcome of oppressing, tyrannical thoughts. These thoughts work against the spiritual good of the individual; they aid the wild, uncultivated, undisciplined, and sensuous thoughts (Ammonites) in an attempt to overcome the true spiritual thoughts (Israelites) and so gain dominion over the whole man (Aram and Syria symbolize thoughts of the intellectual realm that have no understanding of the real, Israel). Maacah means compressed, depressed, worn, and signifies thoughts of an oppressing and depressing character. The children of Ammon, when they "saw that they had made themselves odious to David," hired chariots and horsemen out of Aram-maacah to fight against Israel.
