Metaphysical meaning of Ashpenaz (mbd)
Ashpenaz, ash'-pe-naz (Pers.)--nose of the horse; horse's nose.

Master of the eunuchs in the palace of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon (Dan. 1:3).

Meta. Ashpenaz listened to the advice of Daniel (spiritual judgment) in regard to the kind of food that Daniel desired to eat, and was quick to note the good effects of the change of diet. The nose is the organ of smell, and smelling suggests a certain power to perceive, detect, or get an inkling of things. A horse always represents vitality, the vital forces. Ashpenaz (horse's nose), the master of the eunuchs, would signify a keen and quick perception of the importance of the vital forces in man, but without recognition of one's innate power and ability to utilize these forces to build up one's true spiritual being.
