Metaphysical meaning of Ethnan (mbd)
Ethnan, eth'-nan (Heb.)--gift; reward; hire.

Son of Ashhur and Helah, of the tribe of Judah (I Chron. 4:1).

Meta. "The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom. 6:23).

From the human viewpoint there may be a sense of hire. of earning one's good (see Matt. 20:1-16, in the attaining of life, since every man must work out his own salvation. Each individual, however, will come to the place, in the course of his overcoming, wherein he will perceive that it must be God who works in him both to will and to work for His good pleasure, if an-thing worth while is to be accomplished or attained (see Phil. 2:12, 13). The reward is for faithful continuance in well-doing (see Rom. 2:7).
