Metaphysical meaning of Gath-hepher (mbd)
Gath-hepher (A.V., Josh. 19:13, Gittah-hepher), gath-he'-pher (Heb.)--wine press of the pit; wine press of the well; wine press of the pitfall.

A city of Zebulun (Josh. 19:13); it was the birthplace of the prophet Jonah (II Kings 14:25).

Meta. At every inflow of new life and Truth into consciousness there must be a letting go of old ideas and their accompanying habits, that the new may become established. To the sense mind of man this process of giving up his cherished beliefs is a sore trial (wine press of the pit). He sees only the trying aspect of the experience. This is what Gath-hepher stands for.
