Hadad, ha'-dad (Heb.)--sharp; quick; vehement; might; force; power; majesty; glory; splendor; joyous; rejoicing. Genesis 36:39 has another form of this name, Hadar, meaning where one returns for rest; concealed inner chamber; hidden principle.

a A king of Edom (Gen. 36:35). b A son of Ishmael (Gen. 25:15). c Hadad was the name of the chief Syrian deity and was the title of several of their kings. d An Edomite prince in Solomon's time (I Kings 11:14).

Meta. The setting up, as all-powerful, of the intellect in its spiritually unawakened state. Back of the intellect, however, back of every expression of intelligence or understanding, there exists the hidden principle of all light, all wisdom, all knowledge--God, Spirit.
