Metaphysical meaning of Iscariot (mbd)
Iscariot, is-car'-i-ot (Gk. fr. Heb.)--man of Kerioth; man of the cities; man of hostile encounters; man of conveniences.

The surname of Judas, the disciple of Jesus who betrayed Him (Matt. 10:4; 26:14).

Meta. Kerioth was a city of Moab against which Jeremiah prophesied (Jer.48:24, 41). Moab is the carnal mind. Judas Iscariot was the disciple of Jesus Christ who refers to the life faculty in man. Iscariot (man of Kerioth, man of hostile encounters), as the surname of Judas, signifies that the life faculty at this phase of overcoming is not fully redeemed from carnal thought and desire.
