Sheshbazzar, shesh-baz'-zär (Heb. fr. Pers.)--fire worshiper; joyous vintager; joy of the vintage; unassailable joy; joy in tribulation.

The name of Zerubbabel in Persia. He was a prince of Judah and was made governor over Judah by Cyrus, king of Persia (Ezra 1:8; 5:14).

Meta. The inner assurance of faith, which rejoices and triumphs even in the midst of trial because it knows that new realizations of life and understanding, power and glory, are at hand (joy in tribulation, joy of the vintage, unassailable joy. "We also rejoice in our tribulations: knowing that tribulation worketh steadfastness; and steadfastness, approvedness; and approvedness, hope" (Rom. 5:3, 4). "Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, ye have been put to grief in manifold trials, that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though-it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ: whom not having seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory: receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls (I Pet. 1:6-9).
