Metaphysical meaning of Elasah (mbd)
Elasah, el'-a-sah (Heb.)--God is maker; whom God has mad e, God is creator, i.e., produced from Himself.
a Son of Pashhur, a priest who had a foreign wife after the return from the Babylonian captivity (Ezra 10:22). b The son of Shaphan, by whom Jeremiah sent a letter to the Jewish elders and priests whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive to Babylon (Jer. 29:3).
Meta. The innate belief in the religious nature of man that God is the maker of the universe, in that the universe came forth from and is an expression of God; that God is guiding and directing all things; and that He will bring order out of confusion and peace and good out of seeming chaos and evil. This inner assurance that all is well, or will be well in the end, comforts and strengthens the religious thoughts of man when they are apparently bound in the darkness of sense: Elasah was sent by Jeremiah to the captive Jews in Babylon to encourage them to make the best of existing conditions and to go on increasing and multiplying, to the end that they should be released and brought again to their own land. (Jer. 29:1-14.)
