Metaphysical meaning of Midian (mbd)
Midian (in A.V., Acts 7:29, Madian), mid'-;-an (Heb.)--rule; government; judgment; subjugation; striving; contending; pleading; strife; contention.
Fourth-mentioned son of Abraham by his second wife, Keturah (Gen. 25:2); from him the Midianites were descended. Moses went to the land of Midian and dwelt there when he fled from Pharaoh, king of Egypt (Exod. 2:15).
Meta. Midian pertains to rule, government, a certain sense of dominion in consciousness that comes about by the union of Abraham (the first activity of faith in human consciousness) and Keturah (a phase of soul consciousness that, though still in sense, aspires to higher things for the body; see KETURAH). This sense of dominion, while it includes and is founded in a degree of discrimination and understanding (judgment) even of God and of higher things, is full of contention and strife. It is not spiritual, but is opposed to real spiritual Truth. The Midianites, descendants of Midian, were enemies of the Israelites. They represent contentious thoughts, also judgment or discrimination in sense consciousness; judgment of the senses according to outer appearances produces discordant thoughts, jealousies, and the like.
