Metaphysically Interpreting II Chronicles 15:1-19
15:1And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded: 15:2and he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: Jehovah is with you, while ye are with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you. 15:3Now for a long season Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law: 15:4But when in their distress they turned unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them. 15:5And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in; but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the lands. 15:6And they were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God did vex them with all adversity. 15:7But be ye strong, and let not your hands be slack; for your work shall be rewarded.
15:8And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill-country of Ephraim; and he renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah. 15:9And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and them that sojourned with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Jehovah his God was with him. 15:10So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa. 15:11And they sacrificed unto Jehovah in that day, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep. 15:12And they entered into the covenant to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul; 15:13and that whosoever would not seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. 15:14And they sware unto Jehovah with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets. 15:15And all Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and Jehovah gave them rest round about.
15:16And also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and made dust of it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron. 15:17But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days. 15:18And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels. 15:19And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.
January 15, 1910: II Chronicles 15:1-15
Asa means healer. He is represented as king of Judah, which metaphysically represents the inner life force of man's organism. We usually refer to this inner life force as the vitality. Those who are not students of mind have but slight comprehension of the real character of these subjective energies. They know that the heart beats and the blood circulates, that digestion and assimilation go on, and that the body is the most wonderful structure in existence; yet they are ignorant of the intelligent power that directs and sustains its intricate machinery. An intelligence transcending that of the intellect is manifest in this realm under the heart, and a desire to understand, and a certain patient union of head and heart reveal that another man presides there, who in this lesson is designated as King Asa.
King Asa is called healer because of the peace which reigned in his kingdom, for the first ten years. The fact is that the subjective consciousness is in a state of perpetual rebuilding of the system, when a right relation is established between it and the Divine Mind. Asa destroyed all the heathen worship of idols, or [?] symbols and commanded that Judah seek the Lord God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandments. The building of the fenced cities with “walls and towers, gates and bars,” refers to the establishment, through rest and harmony, of centers of life in the organism that are protected by walls of positive Truth thought from disintegrating forces without.
Those who have not studied carefully the laws of mind think it foolish to insist upon patients giving up all material means, when they decide to turn to God for healing. There is a very good reason for this, however. The mind controls the vital energies of the body, and when it directs part of them to the spiritual and part to the material, there is separation and consequent discord. “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
This law of whole-hearted service to God is here set forth: “They entered into the covenant to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, with all their hearts and with all their soul.” Then they affirmed their loyalty: “And they sware unto Jehovah with a loud voice and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.”
The power of the spoken word is very great. When we think, the mental atmosphere is set into action, in the realms where thought forms originate; and when we speak, the material world (which is the manifestation of the mental) is affected. When feeling, thought, and word are united, tremendous results are sure to follow. Where the “whole heart” and “whole desire” is set upon the Lord and fearless words of loyalty to Spirit are spoken, the harmony of the Divine Law is established and the “rest” of God is found in the whole man.

What is the meaning of “Asa,” and what in consciousness does Asa represent? “Asa” means healer, and represents in consciousness the dominant ruling force in the inner life of the organism.
Under what condition is this inner life (Asa) blessed of Jehovah? When a right relation is established in consciousness between the subjective vitality and Divine Mind, a harmonious expression follows, and perpetual rebuilding of the tissues goes on in the organism.
How is this right relation between the subjective vitality and Divine Mind established? When the natural life in the organism is acknowledged as God-life, when it is quickened, purified and regenerated with words of Truth, it is transmuted into Divine Life and its harmonious relation with Divine Mind is established.
What do the sacrifices unto Jehovah typify? The sacrifices unto Jehovah typify the giving up and denial in consciousness of all ideas adverse to Divine Mind.
How is the “rest” of God established in man? When man covenants to serve God only, he thinks upon ideas of Divine Mind. This thought action sets Divine Law of harmony into activity, and perfect balance or “rest” in mind and body is established as a natural result.

What determines the measure of man's powers? Man's own consciousness fixes or determines how much he is to accomplish towards the realization of his desires.
How is this truth expressed in the text for today? “Jehovah is with you, while ye are with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.”
What-is the meaning of the word Asa, and what does it represent metaphysically? The name Asa means “healer” and represents the inner life force or vitality of the organism.
What evidence have we that this inner life force possesses intelligence? This vital force directs and sustains the intricate mechanism of the body, maintains the even temperature of the blood, works unceasingly to keep the body in health, and controls all the subjective functions without a moment's conscious thought on man's part.
What part does peace play in healing? Peace is necessary to all permanent healing.
What causes man to fall short of the goal he sets for himself? When he lacks God consciousness, man falls a prey to fear, which causes him to lose courage and stability and to fall short of reaching his goal.
Of what is the prophet Azariah a symbol? Azariah symbolizes that in man which realizes Jehovah as a very present help and deliverer at all times.
Account for the negative or destructive forces in man's physical nature. Man's physical organism, like his mental nature, is twofold. Each has its positive and its negative side. The organism has within it a sustaining force that may be called the natural vigor of the man. Then there are destructive tendencies that seek to disintegrate the organism.
How may we observe the symbolism of sacrifice today? We may dedicate the natural life that flows into our consciousness from Spirit (our sheep) to the service of God, and may consecrate the full strength of our vitality (our oxen) to the search for the spiritual meaning of life.
How does one enter into the “rest” of God? By fixing the whole heart and the whole desire upon the higher law of life, and speaking fearless words of loyalty to Spirit, one enters into conscious oneness with God, or into His “rest.”
