Violet Assam

Violet Assam was an African-American Unity minister who was ordained in 1969 (She does not appear in the ordination photos). She was the recipient of a Trinidad and Tobago governmental Medal of Merit for service to the country in Religion.

Facebook post: The late Rev. Violet Assam founder of Unity Center for Holistic Living - St Joseph always celebrated St. Joseph's Day and used the affirmations of St. Patrick's Lorica, which contains a great Truth message. She told me the reason for this was that while at worship at St Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, she was inspired and divinely guided to become a Unity Minister. You never know where inspiration can come from.

Violet's granddaughter shared these photos with us. Click on the image to see a high resolution copy. Here is what she has to say:

The first picture is of my grandmother and Dr Maxwell Maltz, best-selling author of Psycho-cybernetics. The story was that she was visiting NewYork and went to his Manhattan office without an appointment and got a way to see him and ask him to come to Trinidad to do a seminar on the book. He asked her, "why do you think I would agree to doing that?" and she answered, "Because I'm asking you." :-) I believe the seminar occurred in 1975/76.

The second photo is a picture of my grandmother with Rev Sig Paulson and her chairperson, Mrs. Marjorie Julien at where she invited him to Trinidad to participate in a retreat.

The third photo is my grandmother's graduation ordination pic at Unity village. She's the short one in the front row. :-) [Note: this is not likely an ordination photo. But it may be related to ordination. Carol Ruth Knox is to Violet's right. None of the Fillmores appear in the photo.]
